Edmonton is the Alberta provincial capitol city.
Edmonton is the service city for the vast northern Alberta and much of the Canadian Arctic. It is North America's most northern large city.
One of the things that I like about Edmonton is the way that a visitor can be barely out of the city limits yet be in remote rural scenery.

Downtown Edmonton is perched on the rim of the North Saskatchewan River. In may 1972 I spent a lovely afternoon relaxing on the Legislature Grounds.
