| The weather in Edmonton and Northern Alberta is much more exciting than the boring sameness that I wsa so familiar with on the Pacific Coast. |

I have been visiting Alberta for several decades. I moved back to Edmonton in November 2007. From my rental apartment, perched eleven stories over the south rim of the North Saskatchewan River, I had a great view to the south. I could also peer west over the University of Alberta and east to the local Refinery Row. As seen on my other local web pages, the region has a lot of sunshine and some great sunrises and sunsets. There was some very cold winter weather that can continue into a late spring. In 2008 we even had some snow in early May!

Fascinated with the daily thunderstorms in June and July 2008, I tried making putting my camera on a tripod and making some storm videos. I then experimented with grabbing images with the video editing software. The screen capture export makes a frame every 1/30 of a second. Often the Lightning strike takes just one or two frames and is hard to capture.

Some other lightning strikes take nearly half a second. The flash goes on and off as several strikes take the same pathway. This sequence looks south in evening of June 24, 2008.

This sequence looks SW past the University of Alberta on morning of July 21, 2008. You can see it travel a great distance sideways.

And here is sunrise and lightning on August 4, 2008.

Finally a few more single frames.
