The church and farm scenery near Edmonton can be quite charming.

I found a tourist pamphlet describing the churches of Lamont County, Alberta. They claim the most churches per capita in North America. Many of these photos were taken at the end of May 2008.
[Most of my notes and numbering system shown here is from that pamphlet].

While there are plenty of Anglican and Roman Catholic examples, I am particularly attracted by the local Ukrainian, Russian and Greek onion-domed roofs.
I start my tour in nearby St. Paul County. All of these churches are withing a three-hour drive on the east side of Edmonton.
I was fascinated in the way that you would spy the church domes across the fields as you approach by car. It was interesting to imagine when pioneer families approached on horse-drawn carts in the midst of a prairie winter.

Many of the churches have separate bell towers or sometimes just something far less modest than a tower. Also note the carefully crafted outhouse.

These churches ([18], [17] and [19]) are in the village of Chipman as first seen across the fields.
The first is Nativity of the Mother of God (St. Mary's) Ukrainian Catholic Church followed by the St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church and finally the Russo-Greek Catholic Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist.
