| Many good memories happened along the track. | |
|---|---|
The only access to the few farmhouses of the former hamlet of Bend is to walk along the tracks and across the 600 foot long bridge over the Fraser River. River boats were rare and only useful for trips that were planned well in advance.

| Work was hard, the winters were cruel and the summers wet. But it was so quiet that one could hear the train whistle 12 miles away in Penny. |

Vegetables grew and animals were raised. I helped on the trap line one winter and shovelled snow from the track switches.

|
We made home made beer and had some fun.
|
Even Bend had remote suburbs where people tried to hide from the outside world.
