New York City 2006Featuring Manhattan, Brooklyn and Empire State BuildingTravel and Tourism, Vacation Guide
| These are personal observations from a short visit to New York City in July 2006. I have an other New York travelogue page for earlier visits. |

I arrived on a Saturday evening and started with a long walk down Broadway on the Upper West Side. When I arrived at Lincoln Center there was a free plaza jazz concert complete with many dancers in the audience.

Times Square on Saturday night and Tuesday morning.
Even buildings not illuminated are highly colourful.
The $7 Metro card for a single day worth of subway and bus travel is a great bargain. The subway is a great place for people watching.
Sunday Morning I took the Subway to Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It has a great view of lower Manhattan.

Later that day I took some pictures looking across the Hudson River to New Jersey.
Lower Manhattan will now always be a place with something missing. Many buildings have been demolished over the years in New York. But the World Trade Center will remain unique and special. The next picture is from 1998 followed with a 2006 view from the same Park Row street corner.
I stopped at St. Paul's Chapel to light a candle and pay homage to things past. |
The following pictures show pictures from the streets of Manhattan. There is much old to see that is historic among the shiny and new.
I made just one museum stop on this trip at the Frick Collection. Many Vermeers and Rembrandts but they did not seem to appreciate cameras. I did grab a couple pics in the garden.
I lined up with many of my fellow tourists to visit the 86th floor of the Empire State Building. It is a tourist trap that every New York tourist must do at least once. My last visit there was more than thirty years ago.
