This page shows my personal view of the country of Greece. Especially Athens and Crete.

I was privileged to visit this area in July 1975; Parthenon and central Athenai.

I spent three weeks traveling from one end of northern Crete to the other end. Heraklion, Knossos and Chania.
My favourite spot was camping on the beach at Georgioupolis.

When I left Greece I hitch-hiked north. I stopped briefly at the battle monument at Thermopylae (where the 300 Spartans held off the Persian army).
The rides were slow and short. I "spent 4 miserable hours in the hail and the rain under the shadow of Mt. Olympus. I eventually gave up and spent the night in a hotel. It took me all the next day to travel a hundred miles. My final ride in Northern Greece was in a tractor trailer. The driver picked up another passenger and took us close to the border. My next ride was the best that I ever got...
