This page shows my personal view of the Malay Peninsula including Singapore and part of Malaysia.
I was privileged to visit this area in 1975 and briefly in 1983.

In late May 1975, I arrived in Singapore as a crew member on Yacht Sundowner. We put the boat up on bamboo poles at the quiet Pasir Panjang harbour -- at least it was quiet in 1975 -- and spent several days scraping the hull and recuperating from our travels.
In 1975 I wrote: After a few weeks on a small boat one begins to really appreciate many things which previously we've little thought of. I spent the first night in a cheap hotel but [after] a warm shower or two, a cold bottle of beer, then a soft bed made me feel like a king. I still have a clear memory drinking a cold beer in the bar and watching an old tv movie. I sat there content with very big grin on my face.

From Singapore, I travelled through the Malay Peninsula by bus and train.
