Luzon Island, personal information and images.

I made a week-long trip to the Philippines in 1985. The place struck me as expensive, dirty and crowded. Even measured by East Asian standards, I found extreme contrasts between the lives of rich and poor.
I arrived in Manilla during heavy rain with flooded streets. Most of my outdoor photos of scenery came out dark and dreary.

I really enjoyed my visit to the practice sessions of the Bayanihan National Folk Dance Company. They did practice performances at the gymnasium of the Womens University in Manilla. It was such a good show that I returned on my second and final weekend. The music was a combination of Spanish Flamenco mixed with the local styles across the entire country.

My time in the Phillipines did have some big highlights though. I took local busses north to North Luzon island. The Jeep jitney was the most common form of travel and artistic expression.
