Vancouver City and Area, British Columbia (BC)Lower Mainland pictures from West Coast of CanadaA personal travel view

| Vancouver city has one of the world's great natural scenic locations. | |
|---|---|
It is squeezed between the outlet of the Fraser River and the deep harbour of Burrard Inlet;
but the land area is cramped between the American border, the North Shore mountains and Gulf of Georgia.
| |
While the fabled winter rains keep the parks green, I have often longed for an extra burst of winter sunshine.
We normally get only a week or two of snow in the city but it does look great for the cameras.

| The 2010 Winter Olympics -- a great waste of money -- has been awarded to Vancouver. Most of the mountain events will take place 125 km (75 miles) north in Whistler. The Olympics will be a pan-Canadian ego trip paid for by all the residents and taxpayers of BC. | |
| Clearing up some confusion: This is the Vancouver city in British Columbia. (There is another much smaller Vancouver city in Washington State). This Vancouver is the hub of the largest urban area in Western Canada. It is located 100 km (60 miles) north of the city of Victoria. Victoria is on Vancouver Island, Vancouver is across the water on the Lower Mainland of BC. These pages show my view of the entire Lower Mainland area. | |
