August was a month for hard work but the work has been interesting and creative. Have a look at what I wrote last month.
I have been putting in some extra hours while our new software gets installed and tested. I have been working about 40 hours week but that is not counting extra hours on Saturday. This phase will be all completed this week and then I can relax a bit. I am free this weekend but things are looking good for continued employment through October.

I made another move to a 'Studio Plus Deluxe Suites'. It is comfortable and quiet.

On the first Sunday in September, I made a visit to Oakland's Museum of California. It has a fascinating collection. I spent several hours reading the especially comprehensive and interesting explanatory signs.

They do a good job of explaining the concept and fantasy of California as well as showing the reality. I was especially struck with the history of the native Californian people. Their population went from 300,000 to less than 20,000 between the Spanish arrival and 1900. Their interactions with the Spanish missions and the early Yankee immigrants were especially tragic.

The eclectic exhibits include early vehicles, Spanish maps, beatnik memorabilia and gold rush posters.

In addition there is a natural science exhibit which uses dioramas to emphasize ecology over individual species knowledge.

On the second Sunday of September, I drove out to Santa Cruz and up the coast to San Francisco. It is quite amazing how rugged and lightly populated the scenery can be within 30 miles of the city. The second photo is only about two miles south of Pacifica.

Later in the month things were quiet with lots of work hours. I am still waiting for things to slow down. Oh, well the money is good...
I did make it out to see a great movie -- Almost Famous -- which had entertaining things to say about honesty and the American family. Best seventies era Sex, Drugs and Rock-'n'-roll movie that I have seen.
