What Was New: November 19, 2000Vancouver, Victoria, Trudeau, California(Gregory Melle's Web Diary / Blog)

I worked most Saturdays in September so October was been a time to stop for a needed breath. I went to the Oracle OpenWorld conference several days and spent much time reading.
As a Canadian I was struck by the stories of Pierre Trudeau's death and life. As Canadian Prime Minister for 16 years, he was an infuriation in my life. I never had doubts in his sincerity though. He always knew what was right for the rest of us and he always followed his path with complete confidence.
I bought a Globe and Mail newspaper and watched the Internet news. The best quote of the week went to Joe Clark who said Like our first controversial prime minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, Pierre Trudeau would have built the railway. This is a good reflection on three of our former parliamentary leaders, Macdonald, Clark and Trudeau.
Otherwise, little to write about. (At least nothing that I care to reveal here!) I include one nice photo from Petaluma. Some plants here are sending out spring blossoms but this tree certainly knew what to do in Autumn.
I have not spend much time on web site updates lately. One reason is that I actually managed to finish reading another big art book. Most of my reading in the last few years has been newspapers and magazines. Earlier this year I read several travel guide books. Occasionally I must make an effort to read something different...
I did manage a couple of art gallery visits in Berkeley and Stanford. I updated my Rodin and Art 2000 web pages.
During the November 11th weekend I made a 4-day visit to the Vancouver area. I took the ferry to Victoria for an afternoon visit.
I walked by the Inner Harbour and the Empress Hotel with my niece Vanessa.
I also managed an afternoon wandering through Gastown and Chinatown with my nephew Jesse. I was struck by the fact that the best and worst of Vancouver are so close together. One can walk from Pigeon Park to my favourite pubs in a few minutes.
