July was cool here in Northern California and the expected summer 'rolling blackouts' failed to materialize. A little consumer sanity, a little conservation and a little cool weather have made a big difference. Give us a few months to forget how to spell 'conservation' and things will be back as before.
After my recent driving trip -- see June
2001 -- I generally remained close to my current Fremont home base.
I bought a new tent and hope to do some late summer camping. Perhaps even
this weekend.
A few weeks ago, I made a visit to San Francisco for a photography
exhibit. I also made it out for a couple social dinners.
In the middle of August I made a four day visit to Vancouver. I was searching for the perfect cheap Vancouver apartment in the perfect location. I came close but success will remain for the future. I was especially impressed with a river front place in New Westminster. I should have made my bid an hour earlier.
I even managed a couple free hours on the beach and in Gastown to remind myself of how much I enjoyed Vancouver in the summer.
The most spectacular thing in my life is the tomato and bean plants on the back patio. I have a tiny plot of earth surrounded by a 6-foot high plywood fence. I expect that the plants feel obligated to get higher that the fence before producing. My tomato plants are now more that eight foot high and have finally managed a few meagre tomatoes. I wonder what the tomato plant height growing record is? I even managed to harvest and eat a couple handfuls of beans this past week.
