What Was New: September 08, 2001Mendocino, California, San Jose Flea Market, Kings Mountain, Woodside(Gregory Melle's Web Diary / Blog)

In late August I made a quick one night camping trip to the Mendocino coast. From Elk to Fort Bragg remains one of my favourite scenic spots. Not only is the countryside subtle and amazing but the Victorian buildings fit the scenery to perfection. (Too bad that there are few jobs, the roads are quite slow and the prices can be amazingly high).
These photos were all taken along ten miles of coastline between Novarro Beach and Mendocino Village.
My previous pictures from the north coast are found at CalCoast, What Was New Oct. 1999 and What Was New Nov. 1999
On the Labour Day weekend I did some people-watching, art-watching and scenery observing. I am trying to capture something other than scenery and clouds with my camera. A lovely pair of hands is certainly as photogenic as any coastline.
I finally made it to the San Jose Flea Market. It advertises itself as the world's largest but it could use more variety. I only have so much use for cheap sunglasses, bottles of pepper sauce or loud tee-shirts.
The next day I discovered the Kings Mountain Art Fair above Woodside. There was a quiet set for people-watching and some fine art. The sun through the Redwood trees provided a great setting and lighting display.
I was attracted by the paintings and prints of Charles Beck.

I even bought a small hand painted linocut print by Lisah Horner. Her bio is at Stanford Art Spaces.
A few miles away, I grabbed a few more pix looking across the bay.
Next weekend... no plans. Getting work done.
