I grabbed this view of Alcatraz Island and San Francisco's Coit Tower in early December.
On the last day of 2001 I sought a place for a walk and some crowd watching.
I headed off to the corner of Haight and Ashbury streets in San Francisco. It is a simple corner in a simple San Francisco neighbourhood. Small shops and small cafes.
For a few years in the Sixties this was a centre for hip modern culture.
It now remains a centre for many trying to recreate that spirit.
Or at least for tose many still seeking a place to hang out. "Keep on trucking!"
The area has some fine scenery perched on some quite steep hillsides. Some houses bloom with outrageous colour.
As I left the City I took a few snaps of the pastel parallel houses that flow over the hills of South San Francisco and Daly City.
On the first Sunday of 2002 I walked along the remains of the old Dumbarton Bridge. It is now a fishing pier beside the newer version. This is the same area as I showed in my October 2001 page.
These are pictures from the bird sanctuary park beside the bridge.
No big plans for the rest of January. I would love to get back to Vancouver for a while but I now expect to stay in the Bay Area until this job ends at the end of February.
