It has been an eventful month. I finished my job in Fremont and returned to Vancouver. My three month contract at NUMMI stretched into 20 months.

On one of my last Bay Area Sunday's I found time for a quick trip into The City. I walked along the Embarcadero from Market Street to Pier 39. In the last couple of years this has turned into one of the best strolling places in San Francisco. Lots of renovations; not just buildings but also sidewalks, streets and walkways. The F Tram Line now runs regular service to the Fisherman's Wharf. I expect that for someone familiar with the pre-1992 Embarcadero Freeway the recent changes must appear quite astounding.

I took a final look at Alcatraz Island. It is one of the few SF tourist sites that I never managed to visit.

I finally left on March 13th for the long drive to Vancouver. I was pulling a U-Haul trailer and was lucky to avoid most -- but not all -- of the late winter snow and fog. There were a lot of strange rainstorms that would be more at home in a Mississippi summer. I kept stopping to take cloud photos! These pictures were all taken near Red Bluff, California.

I spent the night close to Oregon. The next day I took these photos from a freeway roadside lookout. This is in suburban Portland, Oregon looking across the Willamette River to Oregon City.

I was back in Vancouver, BC not long after dark. The border crossing was easy this time. It was good to be back. I am really enjoying Vancouver and am in no hurry to leave (or to go back to work).

The Western Canada weather has been unseasonably cool. Fresh snow in Vancouver usually makes for photogenic scenery. The first few days I made many diversions and stops for pictures. I always recommend July in Vancouver, but the winter scenery can be quite astounding. The twin peaks of The Lions often intrude into this city's consciousness.

Visitors often ask about the yellow sulphur piles stored in North Vancouver. The sulphur is removed from natural gas in Alberta and Northern BC. It is stored here before being shipped abroad for steel production. Vancouver is the major west coast port for coal, grain and a variety of mining ores.
