What Was New: September 27, 2002North Vancouver, Victoria, Sooke, Harbour, Cates Towing(Gregory Melle's Web Diary / Blog)

I have been doing home renovations for the last six months. I bought myself a little old condo apartment last winter. Now, after living here six months, I am finally done. New carpets, paint, locks, shelves, flooring, etc. It looks great. Just a little tidying up to do. (There are a few unpainted shelves though...) I promise some photos soon.
I wrote on September 11: I feel like a school English assignment is due and I want to do anything but write. I watch the plants grow and linger in the sunshine on my balcony. I read magazines and I go shopping. Last weekend, I laid new linoleum floor tiles in both the kitchen and the bathroom. I shopped for a new fridge and had it delivered.
There are things that I must express in writing. There are also many things that I refrain from posting in public view on the Internet. This is a week for restraint. For me writing is normally an obligation and not a pleasure. (The photo stuff I do enjoy).
There were a lot of big public commemorative events this month. I'm not sure why humans insist on this. Surely no-one in our generation will forget the events of last year. I think that this should be a day for work. The intent of last year's attacks includes destroying the American government and the American economy.
Those who lost a close loved ones will not forget this day so easily. September 11th was the third anniversary of my brother David's death. He is not forgotten. I made some minor updates to his memorial page and changed the photos.
And so it goes.
Instead of another day to play in the park or to take one last visit to the beach, perhaps this should be a day to for American people to show they still know how to work and make money. Why doesn't everyone demonstrate the continuation of their way of life? Even better, let us live better and take the time to actively do good things.
There are certainly things for me to write about. My family has been experiencing some dramatic highs and lows. There are a few weird people on the Internet though, so I refrain from putting the full lives of friends and family on display. I reveal a lot about myself but I reveal relatively little about those close to me.
We had some great late summer weather. I took some photos of the Cates Towing tug boats moored beside North Vancouver's Lonsdale Quay. This is a great spot to view downtown Vancouver from the North.

It seem to my readers that all I do is take photos of the Vancouver skyline. But it changes and is always photogenic. Labour Day weekend I snapped a couple shots from Spanish Banks beach.
I have made more ferry trips in the last six months than in the last ten years. I think that I am getting the hang of it. After Labour Day I made a three day trip to Victoria to straighten a few things out. I also managed some sightseeing.
I drove as far as China Beach Park near Jordan River. I spent some time watching the tiny surf-chased sandpipers.
It was a week of dramatic clouds. These pictures include Sooke Harbour, a Victoria suburb, an Inner Harbour office building and the Swartz Bay ferry terminal.
I visited the Victoria Art Gallery but none of the Asian works were on display. They have a great Oriental collection. This is a view from inside onto a Japanese garden temple.
My best Inner Harbour vistas were from the roof of a parking garage on Yates Street.
