What Was New: July 1999Wetaskiwin, Drumheller, Alberta, BC, Whitecourt(Gregory Melle's Web Diary / Blog)

During June 1999 I was busy working but did find time to make some car photos which can be seen at my Automobiles page. (My May photos from Monterey are still at May What's new).
July is a traveling month. During the first July weekend I visited Tom Asselin's 50th birthday party in Whitecourt, Alberta. "Big T" can be a bit intimidating sometimes...
But generally he is an old softy. Especially when Erica exerts her gentle but persistent influence. I thank them, Jodi and Kevin for their hospitality over a period of many years.

Late nights were spent around a campfire. This picture was taken at 10:45 pm.
.
Afterwards, I was off to Saskatchewan where it is generally flat. This shows a Canadian Pacific freight and the Trans Canada highway.
A quick visit to Regina, Saskatchewan followed. My possessions and old El Camino remain intact.
During this trip I stopped at every small town between Calgary and Edmonton. Some of the towns are quite lovely. Drumheller's Royal Tyrrell Museum has a magnificent dinosaur collection.
Wetaskiwin has a great collection of all kinds of machinery. This Dodge was only restored on one side. The 1929 Duesenburg Phaeton Royale shows the best of American engineering.
I was impressed with the fields of yellow Canola flowers. This was my best photo attempt.
Downtown Edmonton is growing fast. There is a new glass pyramid and tower at city hall. I was also impressed with the new Grant MacEwan Community College as seen to the left in the last photo.
After all that it was back to San Jose for a few days and then I flew to Vancouver for a quick weekend visit. I spent all of Saturday the 17th with my brother David at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. We have high hopes for his future.
Plans are uncertain for the rest of the summer. There are a couple of Laguna Seca car races that I must take in. Otherwise my plans are open. In June I signed a second 6-month lease on my apartment so I remain hard at work exterminating Y2k software bugs.
