| September was not a great month for me or my family; but things are looking up in October. I am finally designing and developing some Oracle database software at work. Doing something creative and interesting for a change. |
In early October, I finally made it to the north California coast in Mendocino county. What a fabulous area! It is a long drive from Silicon Valley jobs, and I suspect that those summer fogs could get dreary, but the weather was great for my short visit. I will have to take a camping trip there very soon.
These pictures show downtown central pictures of the small village of Mendocino. I have already checked out the real estate ads at Sea Cottage Real Estate. Old houses on Main Street start at about $1.5 million!
This view looks back towards where the previous two were taken.
These photos were taken about 15 miles north -- near the north coastal end of Highway 1.
On October 16 I made another visit into San Francisco. It is about an hours drive from San Jose. There was some hill climbing, nice weather, good food and some interesting scenery. I sneaked into the upper glass concourse of the Mandarin Hotel to take a few pictures. It is one of the best pictures in town but it is officially only open to guests in the $300+ rooms. The first view looks north to the TransAmerica Pyramid and Coit Tower. The second view shows the wall of Embarcadero centre -- classic sixties architecture. The third view looks south to 525 Market Street where I worked in the summer of 1998.
After my long walk downtown I took the California cable car back to the Van Ness Street terminus.

I stopped for a nice dinner. Then just after sunset I arrived at Ocean Beach. The ocean front was packed with people enjoying the sunset. The City was enjoying one of the best weather weekends of 1999. No summer fog or winter storms.
