Big news was the death on September 11th of my brother David John Melle.
I created a memorial page. I was in Vancouver September 14th to 19th.

On the last weekend of August I went camping at Laguna Seca Race track to see the Historic Car Races. One of the big attractions there is the great scenery. The cars range in age from the twenties up to Formula cars from the seventies and eighties.

I was camping in my new station wagon and trailer. (Well they are both new to me!) The fog and wind at night were extreme but it all burns off before noon. I will be back at Laguna Seca for the CART Indy Race on September 12th.

A great attraction at this race series is the wonderful scenes in the pit paddock area. Unlike the Blackhawk museum cars -- seen at my cars page -- here the engines are appreciated as much as the body work.

Some of the photographic highlights included the vehicles on display by visitors and car dealers. Daimler Chrysler was promoting their Atlantic concept car -- note the 21 and 22 inch tires! Shelby Ford was promoting yet another replica of his famous Cobra from the sixties.

On September 3rd I expected to finally get a long overdue replacement of temporary crowns that I have had on four teeth for a month. I arrived for my 8 AM appointment on that day to discover the dental office was almost completely burned out! So I had to start the dental work all over from scratch. Dental co-payments seems to be my big investment this year!

I did some more camping on the Labour Day long weekend. It was a short unplanned trip. I camped on Saturday night at the Tower Marina in the heart of the Sacramento Delta. Sunday morning I stopped in SuiSun City. It has a Louisiana Delta appearance.

After my trip to Vancouver for David's memorial I was ready to take things a bit easy. Last weekend was a cleanup day. October looks like a more fun month. I hope that my family's luck improves.
